Volunteer Hygiene Trainers
Over the last 5 years, SHF has benefited from the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers from within Nigeria but we are ready to expand our volunteer reach to come from other countries This opportunity is ideal for individuals with certification or Social Work experience. Specialized skills, including a post-secondary degree in hygiene education, IT experience, public relations experience, and development program management are desirable.
Key Responsibilities for Volunteer Hygiene Trainers:-
Teaching hygiene practices to women and children in rural communities.
Developing a participatory methodology appropriate to the environment.
Establishing a monitoring plan for programs and progress, community growth, and hygiene development.
Regularly interacting with community members.
Leading-by-example through active participation in community activities.
Skills and Competences
Experience working in rural communities.
Good interpersonal and communication skills essential, including in cross-cultural and diverse contexts.
Fluency in English (written and spoken) essential. Hausa is an asset. Commitment to learn basic Hausa prior to departure desired.
Post-secondary certification, diploma, or degree. Acceptable combination of education and experience will be considered.
General knowledge of gender and diversity issues, children's rights and protection issues desirable
At least six months experience living or working abroad.
Hard-working, flexible, and open to diverse experiences.
Ability to lead and work effectively with others to achieve results.
Commitment to building and developing the volunteer program.
Ability to live in rural areas and hardship contexts.
Please do prepare your personal and professional life to make a commitment to serve abroad for the full term of the service you pledge to SHF.
Basic room and full board in line with standards provided to local volunteers.
Ground transport to/from airport and rural community upon arrival and departure.
Assistance to sightsee in Kano.
Six-month assignments are subject to review with option to extend for one year or longer. Well-designed, short-term project proposals will be considered for three-month assignments. In addition to teaching Hygiene, volunteers with appropriate skills are encouraged to develop and implement projects appropriate to the rural community
